Baselworld 2012: Claret X-TREM-1 – First Impressions
You’ve seen the press release, the pictures and Tom’s detailed description of the watch, but what is it really like? Well, first off it is smaller than you might expect given the stature of previous models, but the real surprise? The weight. There just isn’t any.
Baselworld 2012: Speake-Marin Piccadilly Serpent Calendar
The Piccadilly range has been a mainstream stay of the Speake-Marin brand since the company was founded in 2000. The original Piccadilly used a heavily modified ETA movement, replacing a range of parts to improve performance, longevity and look. This combined with the rear mounted rotor meant that they were quite thick, but managed to retain a balanced aesthetic.

As I have said before the life of a freelance journalist is rarely a stroll in the park. I’m not sure who those guys are that get invited to endless reception parties, but they don’t appear to be me.

SIHH 2012: Lange & Sohne
I have always been a big fan of Lange & Sohne, interviewing a previous CEO was one of my first professional watch jobs, so they will always have a special place in my heart. In 2012 our favorite German watch brand is making the most of its Saxony roots with artisan skills going back to the 12th Century.
SIHH 2012: Richard Mille

A few weeks ago I wrote an ‘on the wrist review’ of the Clerc Hydroscaph and so it seemed like a good idea to follow it up with a watch I have been looking forward to trying for some considerable time, Marvin Watches’ Sebastien Loeb Special Edition Chronograph.
On The Wrist Review: Clerc Hydroscaph
Last year a fascinating and at times feisty exchange took place on this site regarding the role and professionalism of bloggers. This subject has reappeared on other forums since then, suggesting that we don’t do our research before we write. So, to counter that we’ve decided today to take an educated look at the Clerc Hydroscaph.
Baselworld 2011 In Review: Gronefeld One Hertz
Across from the Academie Createur Hologerie Independent booth is a small pseudo-shop with the title “Independent Watchmakers”, inside, amongst a few other well-known small brands are the brother’s Tim and Bart Gronefeld.

Marvin is an interesting company, yes it makes quartz watches but it also makes automatic movements and a regulator, they are also affordable. There will be some new models later in the year but for Baselworld 2011, they are concentrating on their collector box sets.
