Corum Sponsored ‘Energy Team’ Win Round 5 Of The America’s Cup In Venice!
As a watchmaker Corum has had a long-standing association with the world of sailing and has participated in many events throughout the years. In 2010 the company celebrated the 50th anniversary of its iconic yacht-inspired Admiral’s Cup collection, and now in 2012 it reaffirms that commitment through its involvement with the Energy Team in the America’s cup.
The America’s Cup is played out across six different locations over the course of 2011/12 and last week Venice played host to the second-to-last round, providing a stunning backdrop for some incredible racing. The eventual winner of the four-day event was the Corum sponsored Energy Team led by their legendary Skipper, Loïck Peyron, putting the French team in fourth position overall on points.
As a major sponsor and official timekeeper of the Energy Team, Corum has been heavily involved with the race and has put together some excellent videos of the event in Venice (such as the one above), as well as some pretty cool interviews with members of the crew (including Peyron himself). If you’ve got a couple of minutes spare they are definitely worth watching, even if you not a fan of sailing, as they are quite insightful. I know I definitely learned a few things!
The final round of this year’s competition will take place next month in Newport, Rhode Island from June 26 through July 1, 2012, after which time the overall winner of the series will be crowned.
