#VintageWatchFridays goes foreign this week with a gorgeous Jaeger-LeCoultre Triple Date Calendar dating back to the 1940s.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Triple Date Calendar

Presented in an 18k solid rose gold 37mm case (including the crown, 36mm excluding), the original Jaeger-LeCoultre Triple Date Calendar collection served as the inspiration for the brand’s modern day Master Calendar.

Aesthetically the dial is perfectly balanced, allowing for easy and intuitive reading of the triple-calendar indications. Just below 12 o’clock twin apertures display the day and month respectively in bold red lettering, whilst a red-tipped date hand points to the date, which is shown on an outside chapter ring (also in red).

Now, as the observant amongst you would have no doubt already noted, what makes this particular piece a little more
special – well, for us English-speakers at least – is the fact the day and month indications are in French.

It’s not something that is going to dramatically increase the value of the watch over time or anything like that (and in fact this watch was also available with an English dial) but it does make the watch a little more distinctive, and when it comes to vintage, distinctive is always a good thing.

What I really love though is how the dial has this wonderfully three-dimensional feel to it due to its layered design. This becomes more apparent when you look at the watch side on, all of a sudden the rose gold applied numerals and indicies jump out at you, giving the watch a sense of depth that is really quite attractive. And don’t even get me started on those gorgeous tear-drop lugs!

Inside the Jaeger-LeCoultre Triple Date Calendar is a manually-wound movement. I am not 100% sure on the details but my research suggests it will be either Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 464 movement or the Jaeger-LeCoultre Cal P484/A movement. Either way, given the brand’s enviable reputation you know you are getting a top quality timepiece that is still going strong despite being over 70 years old.

Make It Yours

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Triple Date Calendar is available from Christie’s now for US$6,200.
