Beautiful comment, Carol, thanks. I could not agree with you more.

Have a glance at our Maurice de Mauriac interview here , I think this man also shares the same values : http://thewatchlounge.com/daniel-dreifuss-maurice-de-mauriac-un-homme-a-part/

As usual, Laurent is ahead of the curve, not only in his choice of brands but in his opinions about the industry. We don't need beautifully crafted mechanical watches to "tell time". We can tell time more accurately with our mobile phones. But we do need beautifully crafted mechanical watches to remind us to "take time". To take the time to wholly appreciate and rejoice in the core values of ingenuity, craft and truthfulness that a beautiful mechanical object represents. To those who appreciate these values, high end luxury (and its watches) will remain a cornerstone of the appreciation of time.

Hi,

What a great interview, I really enjoyed it! I agree with Laurent that we are probably not going back to smaller watches and I also think he is right on the effects of the crisis for this coming year. However, the interest shown in the models released/introduced during SIHH and the BaselWorld press releases that are being mailed and published already look promising. No doubt that at least the watch manufacturers do everything they can about pleasing the customer. It is up to the consumers and their money spending spirit or ability. Collectors will always be there and ready to spend their last cash on watches, however... it'll take some more than only collectors..

Thanks ! I do agree with you, but we can see that a WW crisis like the one we had in 2009 - which still impacts different markets at different levels - did not shake out the industry that much. Only market trends or consumer trends could have enough impact.

For market trends, of course, I think about the rise of Asian components & finished movements - even if, so far, the Swiss industry is not tempted at all by any kind of business deal with chinese or japanese companies.

For consumer trends, no specific idea of what could rise within 2 to 3 years that could dramatically change the landscape. Any idea ?

Good interview, thanks! I still expect to see some kind of shake-out in the Swiss watch industry, imho too many new brands have been introduced in the last 3-4 years that add little value and can't separate themselves by offering something unique.
