Vacheron Constantin’s sportier watches have always been a bit understated. Two new Overseas Blue models are here to change all that however.

The Overseas Blue Limited Editions

I should probably start out by clarifying that this is not the first time Vacheron Constantin have introduced a bold touch of blue to the Overseas collection. Back at the end of 2013 the brand unveiled the gorgeous blue dial Overseas Chronograph, a boutique-only edition that really hit the right notes.

This year they’re giving two other watches in the collection the same treatment in the form of the Overseas Blue simple date and the Overseas Blue Dual Time, with the former being offered in a limited edition of 350 pieces and the latter just 300 pieces. Both models come with that gorgeous blue dial and will be delivered with two dark blue straps – one in vulcanised rubber and the other in Mississippiensis alligator leather- equipped with a triple-blade and double-pusher folding clasp.

My personal preference is for the Overseas Blue simple date. As the name suggests this watch only offers the bare essentials, i.e. date and time, which as far as I am concerned is all you need for the summer. Powered by the self-winding Caliber 1226 SC, the solid caseback is engraved with the famous Amerigo Vespucci three-mast ship. What I really like though is how the blue dial really brings this watch to life.

I’ve always liked this model but previously I found it a little lackluster and boring, not anymore though. Plus the rich blue of the dial really highlights the contrast with the dial indices and also exaggerates the impact of the integrated bezel, the design of which is inspired by the Maltese Cross (the brand’s emblem.)

Of course if you prefer a watch with a little more going on than the Overseas Blue Dual Time is probably what you’re after. Powered by the self-winding Caliber 1222 SC, the watch features dual-time functionality with a day/night indication as well as a power-reserve indication, in addition to displaying the time and date obviously.

Whichever Overseas Blue model you choose either is sure to look good on your wrist this summer.
