You are spot on Christos, this is a watch that has been designed to last. In addition Neil the batteries in quartz watches may not function correctly in extreme temperatures, such as Antarctica, whereas the 20,000ft can be used anywhere, anytime with absolute certainty. Plus as I discussed in the review, this is really a watch that has been designed to showcase the manufacturing capabilities of CX Swiss Military, which I must say are really quite impressive :)

Neil , it is all about tradition . Charmex has an history in making timepieces and not simple watches.
It is a challenge for them to have the best mechanical and chronograph diving watch ever . It is much more difficult to create one than a quarz one . There are some quarz watches who goes deeper but they are only tested on paper and nothing else and when you have to change batterie it is time to change watch .
Here in our case we are talking about a timepiece who can be given to your son and to the son of your son with one second of delay or faster even after 20-30 years .Thats Cosc way .

Best regards
CHRISTOS

Other than aesthetics, why does this watch have a mechanical movement? As the designer notes, it's relatively easy to design an extremely strong case, but much harder to protect the movement, which is not typically rated for the kind of impact attained when lobbing something out of a 12,000 foot plane...

Don't get me wrong - I think it's a lot more desirable with the Valjoux, but if strength and functionality are of paramount importance, seems like quartz would be sturdier.

I have never dived, and have no plans to. I need this watch in the same way I need, say, a pet komodo dragon. But that doesn't mean I don't want one!

I keep running into features that I missed in each of the fine reviews I have been reading of late.

Most seemed to be shocked that it does not weigh as much as a tank despite the fact its built like one.

You have just got to love Titanium. =)

I am wearing mine( yellow dial ) every day 24 hours a day and even with tie and suit sometimes . It goes perfect and everyone is whitout words when they see it .It is the best diving watch until now .

Also they have their own discussion forum where you can interact directly with the owner of the brand. http://watchandclockforum.com/viewforum.php?f=160

Great review Tom! Some real hard work went into that.

I am a massive fan of a show called The Unit which is based on the real life Delta Force of the US Army. These guys are the best in the world, an elite counter terrorism squad. Since designing your site I've paid attention to their watches but can't quite figure out what they are.

But they are all black. Much smaller. You kept mentioning the "intended purpose" but I wonder whether a watch of that size might be too bulky for military operations?

Wonderful work. Feel free to send it over to my office!
