Love at first site with the watch! But i know that the only way that I could have one or something that looks like it is to dip my arm into a burning lava.

well, Tom -- following your suggestion they would have to use the caliber Giulio Papi made for the Chanel Tourbillon Retrograde Mysterieuse and then the watch would easily surpass the 220.000 euro tag (the price of the Chanel entry in the high complication club)...

Great comment Miguel, they should have made it so that the hands "jump" over the 9 o'clock position as this is a "no-fly" zone!

Tom,

Im glad we agree on something! However i cant see the comparison between this timepiece; something that is meant to be new innovative original and obviously extremely exclusive, and Jager LeCoultre, who simply do not come close to sharing the same exclusivity with their reverso. Romaine Jerome should have been looking to do something completely unique in my opinion.
This has been a good discussion, and i would love to know what other watch lovers think!

The big question: how on earth did they get the rocks/ashes if there were no planes flying in Europe? Anyway, I don't think it's an opportunistic move (otherwise they'd do several pieces: the number of years after the previous eruption, for instance) and my take is that it's a good-humoured piece and I laughed when I saw the planes on the pointers. The airlines are not laughing, though...

Hi Jack,

Thanks for your comment, I certainly think you raise some valid points and to a degree I am inclined to agree with you.

However, by the same token I think its important to acknowledge the fact that most brands don't release completely new designs everytime they introduce a new piece. For example, JLC doesn't completely redesign the case everytime they release a new Reverso as this simply wouldn't make commercial sense.

Regardless of the design itself I think it can still be said that RJ has been quite innovative in the creation of this piece, especially the fact that they actually dreamed up the idea of using bits of a volcano in a watch face in the first place :)

This piece although attractive and well designed, is almost a replica of the RJ Moondust DNA timepiece. For a company with such a reputation for creating 'unique timepieces" this is extremely dissapointing. The only difference being on the face the Moondust has more craters. Creating a watch from volcano materials is cool and innovative, but copying, almost exactly one of their previous designs is not exactly what i would call 'innovation' in the industry.
