Speake-Marin ‘Vegas Ten’ For The Purist’s 10 Year Anniversary

As some of you may already be aware the PuristS on-line community is celebrating their ten year anniversary later this year in Las Vegas and have invited a number of highly respected watch-makers to create exclusive pieces especially for this event. Among those asked was none other than master watch-maker Peter Speake-Marin and so here today we have the first virtual rendering of the ‘Vegas Ten’ collection he will be presenting.
Having had the opportunity to sit and speak with Peter about this piece and all the work that has gone into it I think it is fair to say that the photo doesn’t even begin to do it justice. The base is the incredibly successful Marin 2 Thalassa Peter launched late last year however the design and finishing have seen considerable modification to create something that truly stands apart from the original collection.
The draw-card of the Vegas Ten is undeniably the offset jumping hours with jump indication (possibly a world first). The jumping hour is displayed in its own open sub dial at 12 o’clock, with its mechanism on full display. A central minute hand legibly displays the precise time around the circumference of the main dial. The jump indicator at 3 o’clock informs the wearer if the hour has jumped or not so as to minimize any confusion when the minute hand is near 12 o’clock position. As we’ve come to expect from Speake-Marin the manual winding in-house movement is finished to the highest standards with much of the jumping hour mechanism clearly visible through the open dial.
Presented in a titanium case a beautiful contrast is achieved through the use of red gold lugs and crown that match the color of the seconds wheel, date window, jump hour gear and logo plate bringing the piece together nicely. The stars and dots of the hour and minute markers, inspired by the bright lights and fireworks of Las Vegas, are laser cut and filled with Super-LumiNova allowing for a flush dial and slimmer case.
Symmetrical levers and springs in the lower half of the open dial control the jumping hour mechanism ensuring synchronicity between the time and date mechanisms in both clockwise and anti-clockwise (time setting) directions.
The Vegas Ten will be a limited edition of 10 pieces with delivery anticipated early 2012.
So, what do you think?
