Only Watch 2011 – Our Picks So Far
Undoubtedly many of you would be aware of (and eagerly anticipating) the arrival of the ‘Only Watch’ auction that is held in Monaco every 2 years under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert II. This special event sees some of the best known watch-makers and artisans in the world dedicating their exceptional talents to creating unique pieces to be auctioned, with the proceeds being donated to fund medical research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Andreas Strehler and Kari Voutilainen To Make New MdT Chapter Three
In 2008 Maitres du Temps made its official debut with the successful delivery of a bold new project, the Chapter One. The concept was simple; bring together some of the world’s best independent watch-makers, give them the necessary resources and then step back and watch as they work together to create truly astonishing timepieces!
Ikepod Opens First Pop-Up Monobrand Store In Paris
Here’s something cool, designer Marc Newson’s funky watch company – Ikepod – has teamed up with watch retailer Antoine de Macedo to open up its very first pop-up, monobrand store in Paris. The temporary store, adjacent to de Macedo’s boutique and workshop on the left bank of the city, will officially open the doors to its 50 square meter space on June 19, 2011 and will remain open until 30 July, 2011.
Speake-Marin ‘Vegas Ten’ For The Purist’s 10 Year Anniversary
As some of you may already be aware the PuristS on-line community is celebrating their ten year anniversary later this year in Las Vegas and have invited a number of highly respected watch-makers to create exclusive pieces especially for this event. Among those asked was none other than master watch-maker Peter Speake-Marin and so here today we have the first virtual rendering of the ‘Vegas Ten’ collection he will be presenting.
Wow Watch Wednesday: De Bethune Tourbillon Regulator
One of the drawbacks (in my opinion at least) of true ‘classic style’ timepieces is that invariably the movement, regardless of its level of complexity, is largely hidden from view to ensure the dial remains clear and uncluttered. The flip side of this of course is that these pieces often look superb and are a perfect study in absolute refinement. That being said De Bethune, the modern masters of haute horology, have decided to ignore this thinking completely (much to our sheer delight) and have instead created the absolutely breath-taking Tourbillon Regulator.
Franc Vila FVi Nº 7 Tourbillon Intrepido – Cool, Calm And Collected
It’s probably fair to say that Franc Vila’s watches don’t suit everyone’s tastes and let’s face it, that’s precisely the point. Vila caters to a select market of consumers who share a passion for his unique tastes and bold design. Having said that, we’d still wager that the release of the superb new FVi Nº 7 Tourbillon Intrepido has multiplied the brand’s mass market appeal significantly – this is one seriously cool watch.
Wow Watch Wednesday: No Valve Prototype Rolex Double Red Sea Dweller (Auction)
We know, we’ve said it before; we are not vintage watch experts – not by any stretch of the imagination! However, every now and then something particularly intriguing comes across our desk which we just have to share with you, such as this extremely rare No Valve Prototype Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Double Red Sea Dweller Submariner (wow, try saying that three times fast!)

Louis Moinet Astralis – Simply Out Of This World!

Mr. Race Missing In Action – Presumed…?
Mr. Race, Mr. Green’s sporty younger brother has gone missing in action after competing in the 20th Anniversary race of the French “Tour Auto” earlier this month. Known for his charm and striking good looks Mr. Race was always an instant hit with the ladies. That is why it came as no surprise when news came through that he was last sighted pulling over his Ford GT40 to pick up an attractive female hitchhiker with an unusual spider’s web tattoo on her shoulder. Rumor has it they were headed for Spain but no one has seen or heard from the couple since.
