Innovative watch-makers, Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps, have just announced that they have been selected by the prestigious Hôtel de Charme Les Airelles, considered one of finest five star hotels in the world, to create two unique His & Hers diamond-set timepieces, which will be exhibited at the hotel throughout the winter season.
Those of you who are regular readers will need no introduction to MCT’s phenomenal timepiece, the Sequential One, whose seductive charms and technical brilliance have captivated collectors and enthusiasts alike the world over. For those who might appreciate a refresher course however, we highly recommend reading this article first on the Sequential One All Black, a rather stunning limited production model released earlier this year.
For the men’s piece MCT have chosen to retain the classic sense of understated style the Sequential One is so well known for. Housed in an 18k white gold case which has received the special all-black PVD treatment, the subdued colors are complemented by the custom bezel which has been set with 88 black diamonds, amounting to 1.35 carats in total.
On the reverse side “MCT for Les Airelles, Courchevel – 2011” has been etched in white on the inside of the sapphire crystal display back, with the all black alligator strap with black stitching and 18k white gold black PVD treated double folding buckle completing the package.
The price for this one of a kind piece for him is 125,000 € (approx. US$164,000) including taxes.
Whilst we are quite taken with the men’s piece, it is the lady’s special edition that really has us smitten. This is MCT’s first attempt at a lady’s timepiece, and although it is based on the original Sequential One, it looks and feels decidedly feminine and delicate.
Presented in an 18k white gold case, the bezel is set with 88 white diamonds, again 1.35 carats in total, whilst the dial is set with four diamonds (0.095 carats) and the folding buckle is set with 52 diamonds(0.369 carats), making 1.814 carats of white diamonds in total.
The previously reserved dial has now been brought to life with color, demonstrating the true versatility of this piece. Pink hour numerals contrast beautifully against the white dial and silvery/grey minute ring with white numerals, creating an eye-catching effect that is not overpowering.
As with the men’s piece “MCT for Les Airelles, Courchevel – 2011” is etched in white on the inside of the sapphire crystal display back. As a the final touch the piece is presented on an all white alligator strap with white stitching and an 18k white gold diamond-set double folding buckle.
The price for this one of a kind piece for her is 131,000 € (approx. US$172,000) including taxes.
Both pieces will be available exclusively in the shop window of Les Airelles, and may be purchased through MCT retail partner Kronometry 1999.
The Final Word
We have been strong supporters of MCT since we first discovered the superb Sequential One, and can say with certainty that this latest honor is fitting of the brand’s exceptional achievements.
Whilst both pieces are variations of an existing model, we are particularly impressed with the female version. Not only does this really illustrate the versatility of the piece but it also shows MCT’s complete understanding of the subtleties of its timepiece. Where others may have been tempted to go overboard in their attempts to make the piece appear more feminine, the creative geniuses behind this latest iteration have instead decided to let the clever use of color completely alter the perception of their masterpiece.
And in our opinions, the results speak for themselves. Wow.
