Looking slick – the DB28 Black Matte from De Bethune

Madness.

That’s really the only way to describe our inaugural Baselworld experience. Between the thousands of people assailing the halls each day and the innumerable brands competing for your attention, it’s like nothing you’ve ever experienced before (except for those of you who went, of course!). It’s also a heck of a lot of fun. This is a place where unforgettable experiences are had, new friendships forged and old ones renewed, and most importantly you get to spend all day every day playing with some seriously cool watches.

Glashütte Original Senator Panorama Date Moon Phase

As regular readers of the Lounge would know, I am on somewhat of a part-time, never ending quest for the perfect evening watch. I don’t know whether I’ll ever actually find this holy grail of a timepiece (I have an annoying tendency to change my mind constantly) but it sure is fun looking.

One brand that invariably makes it into my top ten is Glashütte Original. Now the brand is getting set to do it all again this year at Baselworld 2013, with the launch of the incredible H2.

Julien Coudray Competentia 1515

Last week I took a look at the simple but elegant Manufacture 1528 from Julien Coudray. This first piece from the young brand with the old name has a strong focus on tradition and has already captured the attention of luxury watch aficionados everywhere thanks to its high-quality finishing and use of premium materials.

Now I turn the spotlight on their second new piece for 2013, the beautifully complicated Competentia 1515.

The inevitable (and most welcome) change in seasons is almost upon us. The Sun is starting to rise earlier and set later, and the mercury is slowly beginning to creep up the temperature gauge, though barely perceptibly so some days it seems. Nevertheless that’s your cue that’s time to at least start thinking about putting those drab grays and blacks of winter away for another year, whilst simultaneously reintroducing some color into your wardrobe, and onto your wrist. And I’ve got just the thing; the Hautlence Avante Garde HLRS 03.
