Wow Watch Wednesday: Masahiro Kikuno Tourbillon (Piece Unique)
There are several phrases in the world of high-end independent watch-making that really get my pulse running; ‘triple-axis tourbillon’ is one, ‘satellite time-display’ is another. However the one that really captures my attention is ‘AHCI Candidate.’
Baselworld 2012: Glashütte Original Senator Observer 1911 Julius Assmann
If you’re in the market for a new “wear-every-day” watch than make sure you take some time to consider the new 1911 Julius Assman tribute collection from Glashütte Original, due to be launched at Basel World this year. Our personal favorite is the limited edition model pictured of which only 25 pieces will be offered. The clean lines, attractive dial and high legibility already make it an instant winner in our books but there’s more to this story than just good looks.
Wow Watch Wednesday: Ludovic Ballouard’s Half-Time
There’s something different about independent watch-maker Ludovic Ballouard. Not different in a bad way by any means, just different. I can’t quite put my finger on it but whatever it is it causes him to view the world of time-keeping unlike any one else. His first timepiece, the famed Upside Down watch, was a huge success thanks to its unconventional time-display presented in a very conventional manner. Now after two years Ballouard has unveiled his next creation, called simply; the Half Time.
Wow Watch Wednesday: Ateliers deMonaco Quantieme Perpetual – QP-EZ
In a recent article for World Tempus, highly respected international watch writer Beth Doerr (read our interview with her here) suggested that the tourbillon’s time in the spotlight may have come to an end and consequently the focus must shift to the further enhancement of other complications, such as the Perpetual Calendar. We couldn’t agree more and it seems we’re not the only ones, as evidenced by the new Quantieme Perpetual – QP-EZ from Ateliers deMonaco which will be on show at this year’s Basel World.
The All New Urwerk UR-110 – What Could It Be?
Earlier this year Swiss watch-maker Urwerk announced the end of production of their phenomenally successful UR-103 series, freeing up Felix Baumgartner (the watchmaker) and Martin Frei (the artist) to focus on their new creation: the UR-110. Scheduled to be unveiled by Urwerk at their Geneva exhibition at the Hotel des Berges (17-20th of January 2011) [...]
An Open Letter To The Luxury Watch Industry – Help Us, Help You
There was an interesting article in the Financial Times recently which we found to be very encouraging but at the same time somewhat perplexing. The article is entitled “The blogosphere: Internet panders to watch geeks’ obsessions” and it was absolutely fantastic to see our very talented colleagues Ben Clymer, Ariel Adams and Robert-Jan Broer mentioned [...]

Well, it’s the final installment in our photo essay on the remarkable Marin 2 Thalassa by Peter Speake-Marin and what a journey it has been. Through this process we hope to have given you an intimate glimpse into the incredible craftmanship, attention to detail and above all time required to realize these mechanical masterpieces, and [...]

Glashütte Says “Bonjour, Paris!”
For all of us watch enthusiasts out there Glashütte will always be a favorite brand, representing all that is pure about the fine art of German elegance and craftmanship. Yet, despite their popularity they have never really had a strong retail presence in Europe, other than their flagship store in their homeland, Germany. Well, that’s [...]
