It’s all about simplicity this week with this gorgeous, yellow gold Vacheron Constantin Ref 4536 timepiece dating back to 1950.
The Vacheron Constantin Ref 4536
Regular readers will no doubt know that I am a firm believer that every man should have at least one classic dress watch in his regular rotation. Something that will complement a nicely tailored suit without drawing too much attention to itself, and yet still be able to withstand even the closest scrutiny.
Now to some of you the idea of finding such a watch may sound easier said than done, which is why I have gone ahead and done all the hard work for you. This classic Vacheron Constantin Ref 4536 is as stylish as it is timeless, and looks superb on the wrist. The thin, Yellow Gold case measures just 36mm in diameter and will easily slide away under your cuff as needed.
What makes this piece special though is the details. For a start it has a gorgeous hobnailed dial which contrasts nicely with the applied gold Arabic and baton numerals, giving the otherwise simple face a bit of character. Meanwhile an engine-turned sub-dial at six o’clock tracks the small seconds, whilst a small plaque at 12 o’clock indicates that this is indeed a watch by ‘Vacheron & Constantin’.
The finishing touch however has to be the unusual stepped lugs, which really make this Vacheron Constantin Ref 4536 pop on the wrist. It’s just such an unexpected twist to an otherwise very classic looking piece and really changes the overall look and feel of the watch.
Inside is the manually wound Cal. 12” ½ – 453 mechanical movement, which along with the case and the dial, has been signed ‘Vacheron & Constantin’. The case back is of the snap on variety, so you will be able to easily pop open the back of the watch anytime you want a look at the vintage movement, although I wouldn’t recommend it. Dust and lubricated moving parts don’t generally mix very well.
