It’s been another busy week in the watch world with lots happening all over the place. That’s why we’ve picked 5 of the best stories from last week for you.
The Baselworld Awards
The talented team over at Quill & Pad had us chuckling with their comprehensive and often tongue-in-cheek Baselworld Awards. All the categories have been made up specifically for this story (or so it seems) and included gems such as “Best practically invisible evolution of an existing model”, which went to Glashütte Original’s PanoMaticInverse XL by the way.

The Rolex Paul Newman Daytona
Taking a break from their fantastic Baselworld coverage the guys at Hodinkee delivered a phenomenal article on the reference points for arguably one of the most coveted Rolexes in the world; the Paul Newman Daytona. The exhaustive article explores all six references of this popular wristwatch in detail, and even has a cool video shot with Hodinkee Editor Ben Clymer and owner of ShearTime Andrew Shear talking you through each model in detail

The Smart Watch ‘Crisis’
You may or may not already be familiar with the name Jack Forster. He is the US Editor-in-Chief of Revolution Magazine and an incredibly insightful fellow when it comes to the luxury watch industry. He is also a fairly constant voice of reason and last week penned a fantastic article for Forbes explaining in detail why the Smart Watch won’t cause a crisis in watchmaking. It’s a pleasant change from all the over-hyped, generic drivel we’ve been seeing elsewhere and it’s definitely worth checking out, even just so you have a better informed comeback next time you get into an argument with your friends over this at the bar.

Longines Conquest Heritage 1954-2014 Limited Editions
Over at Monochrome meanwhile they were busy getting all ‘vintagey’ (not a word I know) with a hands-on look at the new limited edition Conquest Heritage 1954 – 2014 pieces from Longines. The brand is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the collection this year and have really stayed true to the original vision, creating tribute pieces that not only look the same but are also just 35mm in diameter!

JeanRichard Arsenal FC Watches Hands On
Of course it was a busy time for us here at The Watch Lounge too and one of the big stories from last week was the unveiling of two new JeanRichard watches created specifically for the Arsenal Football Club. For those who hadn’t heard the news already JeanRichard announced in January that it had become the Global Partner as well as maker of the “Official Watch” of the emblematic London football club. We managed to get hands on with both models during Baselworld and are pretty confident that Gunner’s fans will be happy with this latest offering from their beloved club.
